Edith WeUtonga

About me

Harare, Zimbabwe

Edith WeUtonga is a ground breaking, cutting edge bassist, singer and songwriter leading her Utonga band. Playing an authentically Zimbabwean sound laced with Jiti, Chimurenga and Shona folk she experiments with some of her favourite World music flavours such as Rhumba, Raggae Calypso and Jazz. She formed Utonga in 2010 and quickly released her debut album in that year – a ten track effort titled UTONGA. This album catapulted her to being one of Zimbabwe’s most recognized musicians to feature at some of the country top live venues. With the same album, Edith performed at all the country’s major Festivals and headlines a few of them.

Notable to her festival performances would be her headline act at the 2012
INTWASA Festival koBulawayo, Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) main stage act of 2012. To date Edith Edith has released 2 more albums, KWACHA (2013) and MADALITSO (2018) and several singles. She has also collaborated with many local and internal artists.

Conflict between family and friends is sometimes caused by unnecessary circumstances. We are better off building each other. Pay less attention to the negative talk and focus more on positive thoughts, talk and gestures

2Thousand years of War

When I analyze our daily life, for ages, I just note that since the creation of this world and even the first men like ADAM and EVA, men were already fighting for multiple interests. Man gives his all to invent, to create dangerous weapons to destroy the world and keep us in perpetual CONFLICT. 2 Thousant years of war.

DAFA WARA NOOYI

« Dafa wara nooyi» means « it gotta breathe » in wolof language from my country Senegal. It paints the human being against the yellings of the planet. How can we be deaf and dumb not being aware of the crying of our planet. That we should better listen and act to repare before it is too late. I chosed three other artists from different backgrounds so they express them selves and tell by their ways how we should behave and open our eyes. Change will come from us then we can make it if we want it. And more,we gotta change orelse we all gonna die.
