Amrat Hussain

About me

Tours, France

My name is Amrat Hussain and I’m considered as an outstanding master tabla player. The art of playing the tabla has been passed on over the last 7 generations from father to son. I grew up in a most musical environment in Jajpur, Rajasthan, the heart of the gypsies. I’m regularly on world tours with our family band Dhoad. Beside that I’ve had the enormous pleasure to work with all those great artists: in 2005 with those Italian artists: Paolo Conte, Avion Travel, Jovanotti, Lucciodala. I performed with musiciains from Cuba, Argentine, Tunesia, Cameroun (Manu Dibango). In 2008 my carrier made a step ahead in playing with Carlo Santana at the Pori Jazz Festival in Finland, concerts with Mick Jagger and Sylvain Luc.
Beside big stage-concerts I love playing interactive concerts in Switzerland with Ssassa just as much. Playing with and for children is an important part of my musical activities.

This song has been composed by Christian Fotsch. The lyrics are written in Romanes by Denis Zekirov. At the age of 13 he got the chance to perform as lead trumpet player for the inauguration of Bill Clinton, along with Esma Redzepova, known as the queen of the Gypsies, who adopted him as her 47th and last son. Amrat Hussain, a tabla player from Jajpur, gives the song an Indian touch. Miguel Sotelo, a flamenco guitarist living in Sevilla, adds with his soloist playing a touch of flamenco to that happy song inviting people to dance.
