About me

São Paulo, Brazil

In the late 60s I did combine the timba with the traditional drum set to create an unique way of playing, the so called Timbatera. In the meantime I’ve founded Trio Mocotó, a group considered to be one of the fathers of samba-rock, that toured and recorded with Jorge Ben, Toquinho and Vinícius de Moraes, and also released four albums. Still with Mocotó, I’ve recorded a legendary album with Dizzy Gillespie, relaunched in 2010. Since the 1980s,I became one of the most active Brazilian percussionists, recording and playing with numerous artists such as Ivan Lins,Sivuca,Al Di Meola and Michel Legrand. In 2002, Trio Mocotó made its big comeback, recording 2 new albums, Samba Rock and Beleza,Beleza,Beleza!, and performing over 300 concerts in Europe between 2002 and 2006. In 2011, I released my second solo album, “O Samba no Balanço do Jazz” by SESC Label. Today, in addition to performing with my instrumental trio, I accompany Ivan Lins, Toquinho and MPB4 on the '50 anos de música' project.

THE WORLD IS CRYING

Co-writers FRANCIS MBE (Cameroun) and MALOU BEAUVOIR (Haitian-American) contributed equally to the writing and production of this track, which was beautifully complemented by JOAO PARAHYBA (Brazil) unique percussions. Malou’s lyrics speak to a world troubled by sickness and inequality while calling to a new generation of Spiritual warriors to rise. Francis’s French and YEZUM (Camerounian) lyrics describe a world in conflict and implore man and the ancestors to bring peace to our hearts. Joao’s percussions speak their spiritual message in the l
