About
the Platform

  • What is Beyond Music and who is behind it?

    Beyond Music is a non-commercial, invitation-based community for professional musicians, composers, singers & songwriters representing all cultures and music styles. It was founded in 2015 by the non-profit Beyond Foundation with support from Tina Turner and was launched as a platform in 2018. The aim is to jointly develop innovative pieces of music across cultures and genres. We want to make an impact in the world with the music we create together. The best collaborative music created during our Beyond Music Projects are released on the Beyond Music albums, guided by some of the world's most famous producers and joined by celebrity guest artists.

    Let's celebrate unity in its cultural diversity and create the music of tomorrow!

    Established in 2005, the Swiss Beyond Foundation is a non-profit organization supporting causes that unite world cultures through music. Our aim is to foster cross-cultural awareness, encourage social change, understanding and mutual respect with the help of creativity and dialog.

    The Executive Team of Beyond Music consists of Regula Curti, Founder, and Konstanze Wiedemann, CEO & Co-Founder.

  • What can I use Beyond Music for?

    You can use Beyond Music in two ways:

    1. To participate in our official Beyond Music Projects, where artists from around the world collaborate and selected works are produced and released as part of the Beyond Music albums.

    2. To create your own independent music projects with other members of the community. Many artists use the platform to write, produce, and record songs or entire albums together, including working with fellow members as studio musicians. Beyond Music charges no commission on your private collaborations. We encourage you to use the platform as frequently as you like.

    Exclusivity rules apply only to tracks selected for the official Beyond Music albums. All independently created projects remain entirely yours and can be released freely at any time.

  • Does it cost anything to register or use Beyond Music?

    No. Registration is completely free. As a non-profit organization, Beyond Music does not charge any additional fees: no monthly subscriptions, no commissions for artist matchmaking, no platform usage fees, and no costs for taking part in our projects. Unlike many other collaboration platforms, there are no follow-up or hidden charges — everything is free.

  • How do I register for Beyond Music?

    In order to register, you must have received a personalized invitation from Beyond Music. All invited users are recommendations from our Ambassadors, selected music producers and music managers.

    If you would like to apply for an invitation to Beyond Music and you are a professional musician, composer, singer and/or songwriter, please click here and tell us more about you as an artist.

    Young artists between the ages of 13 and 18 must provide written permission from a parent or guardian. A template can be downloaded when creating a profile. Once the signed document has been uploaded, the profile will become visible to other users. Instructions on how to upload the document are provided.

  • Who can see my profile and music?

    Your profile can be viewed by other registered users, our Beyond Music Ambassadors and Beyond Music Mentors as well as by selected music producers, world-renowned guest artists and music executives. Once you have submitted a composition for the Beyond Music Project, a condensed version of your profile can be viewed by the public after the end of the submission phase. 

  • How is my data protected?

  • How do I find artists and their music?

    The filter feature under the menu item Artists allows you to search for artists according to their instruments, vocals, cultural background and genre. All of these filters are tags, which are set by the users themselves. You can choose to have the search results shown in a list view or on a world map, which includes short profiles and links to audio samples.

  • How can I connect with other artists?

    Connecting is easy. Simply send them a message using the Chat function on the artist’s profile or go directly to the Chat and search for the artist's name. For larger collaborations, you can also create Group Chats.

  • What types of files can I send through the chat?

    You can send the following file types: audio (wav, aac, mp3, aiff, m4a), video (avi, mpeg, m4a, ogv, webm, mp4, mov), images (gif, jpg, png, tif), documents (pdf, txt, doc, docx, xls, xlsx).

    If a file type is missing which you use frequently, please send us a message to info@beyondmusic.org.

    The maximum file size is 100 MB. Please note that larger files may take a few seconds to load.

  • How can I unsubscibe to email notifications for missed chat messages?

    Under Account Settings you can choose to disable or enable the email notification.

  • Who can I contact in case of technical problems?

  • How can I report potentially prohibited content or other violations?

  • Who can take part in the Beyond Music Project?

    The Beyond Music Project is open to all artists invited and registered to the Beyond Music platform.

  • What kind of music is the Beyond Music Project looking for?

    We are looking for creative collaborations! All contributions must reflect the musical focus of the Project (see corresponding FAQ below). The choice of powerful lyrics is of great importance in Vol.4.

    At least three artists from at least two different cultural backgrounds must work together to develop and submit an original piece of music. Any genre and any combination of genres is welcome. The participants are free to choose the style of music. It is important that the piece of music is characterised by cross-cultural musical interaction. Special attention is paid to powerful lyrics with the focus on "Social Change". Music submitted to the Project should be semi-professionally recorded.

    The compositions and recordings must not have been released for commercial exploitation through other platforms (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music) or made available on recording media prior to upload. After being submitted to the Beyond Music Project, pieces of music may not be exploited commercially on other platforms (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music) or sold on other recording media.

    Each artist can be involved in a total of eight submissions. The same combination of artists in a collaboration can upload a maximum of three submissions for the Project. We look forward to seeing you participate in various collaborations and hearing your musical versatility and creativity!

  • What is the musical focus of the Beyond Music Project Vol.4?

    The musical focus of the Beyond Music Project Vol.4 is “Social Change”.

    The 21st century is still young but our global community is already facing a challenging and uncertain future. Now more than ever, it is your time to take a stand with your talent, to go beyond music. We believe in the power of music as a universal language. We feel the need for a great movement of solidarity and belief the seeds of change grow from within. Only your unique experiences, feelings and struggles inspire the music you create. This is why we made "Social Change" the focus of our upcoming album.

  • I don’t have access to a studio. How can I produce and record a composition for the Beyond Music Project?

    Music submitted to the Beyond Music Project is not required to be professionally recorded and produced in a studio. Feel free to use online digital audio workstations (DAW) for your recording, producing, mixing and mastering. Many of these workstations are free to use. You can find lots of articles about good DAWs on the net, this is just an example and without checking the accuracy of the information.

  • How do I enter the Beyond Music Project?

    After you have created an original composition and recorded performance in a cross-cultural collaboration, you must nominate one ensemble member as “administrator”, who will upload the piece as an entry for the Project.

    The administrator must specify all contributing members of the ensemble and their respective roles so that the contribution will later appear in the profile of the respective member under "Music". A description text about the piece of music and the lyrics of the song in original language and English translation must also be provided. Plus the details of genres, instruments, singing style and cultural background of the artists involved. These tags will later allow other users to find the entry more easily among the contributions. Each contributor must approve the submission before it is officially registered. Once approved by all contributors, submissions cannot be deleted or withdrawn.

  • What is the procedure of the Beyond Music Project Vol.4?

    The Beyond Music Project Vol.4 is composed of three stages:

    1.    Collaboration and Submission Phase
    In the first phase, Beyond Music members will connect, collaborate and upload their collaborative works to the platform. The submission phase was open from 12 September 2023 to 16 April 2024, 9 a.m. CET. Each artist can be involved in a total of eight submissions. The same combination of artists in a collaboration can submit a maximum of three songs for the project. We look forward to seeing you participate in various collaborations and hearing your musical versatility and creativity. Music submitted should be semi-professionally recorded. The compositions and recordings must not have been published or released for commercial use prior to upload.

    2.    Winner Selection Phase
    For Vol.4, we are working with world-renowned and award-winning guest artists - African legend and five-time Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo, Nigerian Afrobeats hit-maker Pheelz, and Ghanaian pop sensation Wiyaala. They will select three submissions as their favorite songs. The musical performance will be judged based on musicality, vocals, instrumental performance and originality. Apart from that, the main criteria will be the significance of the lyrics with respect to the musical focus of the Project. Another 17 submissions will be selected to be released on the Beyond Music album Vol.4 along with the Top3 winning songs.

    3.    Song Production Phase
    The artists involved in the Top3 winning songs will be invited to travel to a city chosen by the respective guest artist and go into the studio alongside the star. Together they will work on and record their song. We want to create great music pieces and have your messages go around the world. Your songs for “Social Change”. Songs with strong lyrics. Songs with a moving story. Songs that inspires to go above and beyond.

  • What are the prizes for the Beyond Music Project Vol.4?

    The Top3 winners will each be awarded a collaboration with a star, a globally acclaimed guest artist. They are "African Legend" and 5-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo, Nigerian Afrobeats star Pheelz and Ghanaian pop sensation Wiyaala.

    The artist teams that created the selected songs will be invited to a professional recording session with the guest artist in a studio of their choice to professionally re-produce the song in collaboration with this artist. We will take care of all travel, accommodation, food, transport and the opportunity to perform in a music video with the guest artist. The three singles will be accompanied by a significant marketing budget, so you can be sure that the world will hear your song. We will also enter the three songs in the new Grammy category "Best Song for Social Change".

    Another 17 submissions will be selected and awarded with a total of up to 85,000 US dollars. In detail: 17 songs will each be honored with an award. The prize money per award is a maximum of 5,000 US dollars. Each member of a winning team will receive 1,000 US dollars for the participation, up to a group size of five members. Collaborations of more than five artists must share the prize money of 5,000 US dollars equally. The songs will be mastered and released with the Top3 winning songs on the Beyond Music album Vol.4.

    With a substantial marketing budget, both the album and singles will enjoy global promotion. We want your songs to go around the world and make sure, your messages get heard.

    All artist teams will benefit from the exploitation of the tracks.

  • What criteria does Beyond Music base it's decision on regarding the winning pieces of music?

    Our world-famous and award winning guest artists will select the winning music pieces according to objective and subjective musical and content-related criteria. The musical performance will be judged on musicality, vocal and instrumental performance and originality. A great deal of consideration is also given to strong lyrics. The submissions have to reflect the musical focus of the Beyond Music Project Vol.4 “Social Change”.
