Joana Elena
Joana Elena began the exploration of her voice when she was 11 years old. The variety in Joana's heritage and her passion for exploring the diversity of cultures in the world, has deeply influenced her understanding and love for music. Since graduating Berklee College of Music in 2019, she has been living in New York, performing as a lead singer with different groups such as DEJAN and People of Earth in the United States at venues such as the Brooklyn Bowl and the Kennedy Center, as well as throughout Europe.
She strongly believes, that music has the power to cross national, linguistic, and cultural borders and create understanding through senses and emotions. Through her music as well as her entrepreneurship, Joana Elena strives to questions alleged barriers and bring people closer together.
We have been creating this piece over a very long time within a group that, as Beyond Music intends, is spread all across the world. All of us deeply believe in the power of music as a catalyst for intercultural communication and empathy as well as understanding towards one another. Born in Switzerland, I did not have to go through many of the things that my co-creators have: being cold at night, not having food, having to leave my home to seek a better future. I don't believe this is honored enough and that is what this song is about.
