As a performer, producer and composer, Al has worked across a staggering variety of genres, including jazz, Afro-Cuban, Indian classical music, electronic music, and various styles of folk music. His unique voice as a pianist has been shaped by years of recording and touring the world with artists including Gary Bartz, Nubya Garcia, Omar Puente, Ruby Tuner MBE, Sarathy Korwar, Yelfris Valdes, Debashish Bhattacharya, London Community Gospel Choir and many more.

He is founder of award-winning music collective Kefaya (described by The Guardian as “one of the most intriguing new bands of the year”), who received critical acclaim both in the UK and abroad for their 2019 collaboration album with Afghan folk singer Elaha Soroor.
