41-DAYZ 41-NIGHTS (v2) featuring David Gilmore

41-DAYZ began as an instrumental expression on ancient objects warehoused in museum basements all around the world, objects that were perhaps once a child's toy or an elder's heirloom. These objects often have numbers written onto them, permanent yet not always pertinent. 41-D was initially created as an emotional response to a series of objects in a Swedish museum that cried out for a new identity beyond the numbers; a yearning for 1 more day, a reminder of TIME; the human conflict btwn living NOW and trying to create a better future for 2MRW!

T T T

TTT is an acronym for "TwinsTrophiesTraditions" created in reflection on how (old) traditions can help to preserve culture, yet can also harm our present day communities, children in particular. Twins refers to a very old Igbo tradition (Nigeria) where twins were seen as evil & were left to die. I told this to Mitchi only as an example of old traditions yet she created a deep set of heartfelt lyrics on the beauty of childbirth, deep fears and a Mother's power to survive + Our Cosmic percussion, Fydy followed with a soulful "fatherly" vocal flow

Ninna Nanna/Nuku Nuku Nurmilintu

This piece is based on two lullabies - 'Ninna Nanna' which Andrea learnt from his grandmother in Italy and 'Nuku Nuku Nurmilintu' which Karoliina brings from the Karelian/Finnish tradition. We have chosen to place these songs in the context of a small boat in a perilous sea carrying people desperately seeking a better life for their children.

Twenty Seven Unread Messages

This piece combines analogue synthesizers, contemporary frame drumming from Italy and Ireland with womens voices from the Druphad tradition of North India and Karelian joiking from Finland. The piece explores the conflict between the drive of unrelenting progress and novelty with the broader rhythms of human experience and the natural world. The electronics create a pulse for tamburello, bodhrán, udu, daf and voices to move against pulling and stretching time towards a resolution that never quite comes .
