I am an Irish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. My work combines traditional instruments - especially percussion - with electronics. My specialism is the Irish frame drum, the bodhrán. As a composer I work in theatre, dance, tv and film.

This piece is based on two lullabies - 'Ninna Nanna' which Andrea learnt from his grandmother in Italy and 'Nuku Nuku Nurmilintu' which Karoliina brings from the Karelian/Finnish tradition. We have chosen to place these songs in the context of a small boat in a perilous sea carrying people desperately seeking a better life for their children.
This piece combines analogue synthesizers, contemporary frame drumming from Italy and Ireland with womens voices from the Druphad tradition of North India and Karelian joiking from Finland. The piece explores the conflict between the drive of unrelenting progress and novelty with the broader rhythms of human experience and the natural world. The electronics create a pulse for tamburello, bodhrán, udu, daf and voices to move against pulling and stretching time towards a resolution that never quite comes .
