Stewy von Wattenwyl was born in 1962 into a musical family. As a child, he enjoyed ten years of classical training at the Bern Conservatory.
After a mostly self-taught education in jazz and related styles, von Wattenwyl went on to study at the renowned Swiss Jazz School in Bern, graduating with a Master's degree in 1998.
During his long career as a professional musician, von Wattenwyl has worked with many of the most successful Swiss musicians, but also with some of the greats from the USA (Art Farmer, Clark Terry, Alvin Queen, Bobby Shew, Bob Mintzer, Johnny Griffin, Eric Alexander, Dusko Goykovic, Reggie Johnson…) and has played at international festivals throughout Europe and the USA.
To date he has released 17 CDs under his own name, many of them as a trio. As a versatile pianist and organist he can also be heard on several recordings as a sideman.
As headmaster of the Swiss Jazz School he is committed to promoting young talent and keeping this cultural heritage alive.
