Cinzia Catania is an accomplished singer, educator, composer & lyricist, currently based in Zurich, Switzerland.
She earned a Bachelor of Music in Groningen (Netherlands) and Graz (Austria), followed by two Master Degrees in Jazz Pedagogy and Composition from HSLU in Switzerland. The voices that influenced her early musical path were Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday & Dinah Washington.
Her love for Big Band music was shaped by Charles Mingus, the Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra and Maria Schneider. She had quite some recognition in that area and won some prices. One of her compositions has been recognized and awarded with the 1st price at the “Jazz Comp” in Graz.
Cinzia’s mixed-cultural background (Half Swiss-Sicilian) flows into her unique and visionary style. She fearlessly blends different genres to express herself and is always seeking new ways to explore and create music. Her biggest influences are: Björk, Imogen Heap, Solange, Radiohead, Elis Regina, Arvo Pärt and Elliott Smith.
