I am Raymond van Melzen, a multi-instrumentalist from The Netherlands.
Back in the 1980s I bought my first transistor organ and started a recording project with my brother. We used everything we could get our hands on, like eighttrack tapes for drums and vacuumcleaners for noise. Slowly we bought more stuff and started writing more music-like sound.
In the nineties we started collaborating with other people and put the band on stage. From then on I was part of multiple bands.
I loved recording and producing more than actually playing live, however, and in 2014 I quit all bands to record my first solo album Transit (https://project2014.bandcamp.com/releases). This eventually grew into a project studio where I make audio and video productions for bands and theatres.
My strength is to change and enhance existing ideas through arrangement and production, so I would love to participate in Beyond Music collaborations.

Music has a remarkable ability to transcend cultural, linguistic, and social barriers: A powerful tool for social change and unity. Musicians have the opportunity to amplify marginalized voices, advocate for social justice, and inspire positive change. In "We Are," we endeavored and succeeded in bringing musicians from diverse cultures onto the same stage, each contributing from their own background and context. There were moments when communicating through music proved easier than discussing the music itself. "We are who we are for a reason."
During an hour and a half online session we gave free rein to our creativity for a second song. Anat Porat and Pobee started writing along these lines of thought. Anat came up with the words Pass It On. She made the connection with the subject of social change through the human gesture of giving and sharing. By giving we also receive. Pobee made the connection with life in his spoken word. The most important gift we all have. Use that breath of life, because it is the only and at the same time everything we need to be who we want to be.
Our composition has developed the theme of Beyond Music, Social Change, in a unique, artistic and modern way. Judging by the conflicts in the world, the division between people now seems greater than ever. Art is an excellent means of bringing people together, seeking dialogue, and learning from each other. Art can only be fully experienced by looking at the world with open eyes and ears as children do - uninhibited and fearless! To achieve that for everyone, P.E.A.C.E (One more Chance). Because People Everywhere Are Created Equally!
