"Ali's concert was a moving journey, specifically to Eastern Anatolia, but also symbolically: to any place where music seems to be above all divisions. The multitude of rhythms and languages specific to this region was not only pleasurable and interesting, but also very moving. Remarkable precision, instrumental mastery and an unforgettable voice". Ula Nowak, radio journalist, JAZZKULTURA (Poland)
Ali Doğan Gönültaş was born in Kiğı, Eastern Anatolia (Turkey), into a Kurdish family of Alevi tradition. He began his musical career with the band Ze Tijê. In May 2022, he released Kiğı, his first solo album, the result of more than ten years of field research. It is a personal look at Kiğı's 150-year musical process. It includes pieces in the languages that have had a presence in that land: Krmancki, Kurmanci, Kirdaski, Armenian and Turkish.
Ali is a big fan of Angélique Kidjo's work.
