About me
Galapagar-La Navata, Spain
Cuban artist and musician based in Madrid, Spain. Instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and teacher of the tres and Cuban music. I began my career at a very young age in Matanzas, continuing my training in Havana with renowned Cuban teachers.
In the field of education, I taught tres and group practice at the Higher Institute of Art and the National School of Art in Havana for 13 years. My love for teaching and music led me to participate in a community project with indigenous children in Nátaga, in the Colombian Andes, and to lead workshops on Cuban popular music at the Technological University of Pereira (Colombia).
Awarded at the 2019 Ibermúsicas Songwriting Awards.
Member of the Latin Grammy Academy in 2021.
In Spain, where I currently live, I have collaborated as a composer and instrumentalist with artists such as Pitingo, LaChispa, Lia Kali, Omar Montes, and Javier Colina.

A degüello
A degüello is an expression that means CHARGE!!! and it is a term that African slaves and Cuban Creoles used as a symbol of freedom. We are four Cuban artists from different areas of the region who also live in different parts of the world and from our identity and cultural variety we make a call in this song for the freedom of human beings.

You Can Only Live When You Die
Poggy wrote the song and reached out to me with a demo of guitar and vocals. I then transformed the demo into an electronic soundscape by adding instrumentation and producing the track. Finally, Frank added trumpet and Jorge added Tres. The song is about reinventing oneself to be a better person. To make an inner change that results in social change when reflecting that transformation back on the world. The lyrics are symbolic of letting go of what you know and opening your heart to something that reflects the innate capacity to love and heal.
