I’m Toni Costa, pianist and improviser from Barcelona based in Switzerland. I develop projects linked to patrimony and memory, even making concerts for site-specific venues. I reinvent historical repertoires with primary sources as creative impulse but played with jazz harmony and contemporary languages to give them new light and present values. I’ve received the support of Instituto Cervantes in Spain and Fondation Pulse in Switzerland to develop this kind of ideas. I’ve just released ’Sefarad au piano’, a solo piano self-produced album recorded where I reformulate different tunes of the Jewish-Spanish heritage. I took lyrics, symbols and traditional songs of the diaspora as a catalyst. The outcome is an eclectic musical portrait of Spanish roots melting the cultural background of the Mediterranean regions where the Jews settled after their expulsion from Spain in 1492. The goal of my artistic projects is to spread out vestiges of Spanish culture around the globe. @tonicostapianist
