JMC Skyred
JMC Skyred, a Berlin rapper and songwriter with Malawian roots, not only focusses on music, but also uses it as a medium for social and political messages. Born in Blantyre, Malawi, he is actively involved in social causes and founded the aid organisation "Shorten the Distance e.V." with the aim of improving the living conditions of children and young people in Malawi.
His first EP "RISE UP" with an accompanying music video on YouTube is a powerful call for justice. In his lyrics, which skilfully alternate between English and Chichewa, he addresses oppression, discrimination, racism, exclusion and police brutality.
His multilingual style combines rap/hip-hop with Afrobeat to create a unique flow.
The song "RISE UP" is a message that calls on everyone to rise up and fight for justice. Justice against oppression, discrimination, police brutality, land theft and against the sale of refugees as slaves. "We have to do something about it. This is the moment to speak up and act to change things."
