Abou Lion Diarra

About me

New York, United States

Abou can navigate through different genres, switching beats, rhythms and styles. He transcends his cultural distinctions even as they are absorbed. From his arrival in NYC from the Ivory Coast, he’s been sought after by diverse musicians from jazz, reggae to New York City downtown electric fusion. He’s played with jazz trombonist Roswell Rudd, and jazz guitarist, Leonel Loueké. He’s equally in sync on tour with EasyStar AllStars’ Dub Side of the Moon, or the iconic reggae titans The Original Wailers in a recent S. American tour. His global perspective and musical range has led him to record and perform with Guadeloupe’s avant jazz icon Jacques Schwart Bart Other tours have been with Angélique Kidjo, Chris Berry, Leon and The People, Charanga Soleil, Wunmi and Slow Commotion, Charles Neville the horn man from the Neville brothers, Henry Butler, the Mighty Diamonds, Saritah, Steve Kimock, Michael Kang, Afro Yorkers and Ivory Coast’s virtuosic keyboard player, Azouny Adou.

Bottom Line (I.C.E.)

Migration is a fact of life on our warming planet. And it has become a wedge issue for those that would seek to divide us, resist change, and hold on to an imaginary image of the past. This song talks about why people leave their home country, and demands that all people be treated with dignity and respect at the border! And that humanity not be sacrificed to the "Bottom Line" of profit. Recorded with bassist Michael Olatuja, Abou Diarrassouba on drums, Dave Masucci on the horns, and downtown NYC luminary Oren Bloedow on guitar
