Buhle-Bontle Percussion

About me

Social Activist
Akasia, Pretoria, South Africa

I’m Buhle-Bontle Satsha, a South African percussionist, drummer, theatre-maker and creative producer passionate about using rhythm, performance and storytelling to connect people. My practice is rooted in African percussion and contemporary performance, with a particular interest in the cultural histories, sounds and stories carried by drums.

I work across live music, theatre, events and creative production, and I enjoy collaborating with artists from different disciplines and musical backgrounds. I’m particularly interested in exploring rhythm as a language whether through performance, improvisation, composition, or collective music-making. I’m excited to be part of a community where I can learn, experiment, contribute my sound and build meaningful musical collaborations.

I play mostly alongside Afro-folk and Jazz music and dabble in afro-house, I am excited at the idea of experiencing global genres through percussion.
