My vocation as a singer has led me on a winding path and required some persistence and obstinacy. The unevenness of this path has evoked much love for backgrounds which bear traits of strangeness, otherness. In musical terms it has evoked a deep attraction towards the beauty of dissonant sounds, heart-wrenching melancholy, the binding honesty of simplicity. My heart is deeply stirred by joining many voices, many singers, many cultures, experiences and backgrounds.

Elly longed to create a song for the planet with just women. Now it sounds like a warm womb and the birth after. When we speak of earth we tend to say she is female, a mother. She nourishes and protects us, gives us air to breathe and healing herbs. She gave us everything, from the moment we crawled from the mud to our 'high' times in the high-rise buildings we live in now. Will it ever be enough?
In many ways this piece came after a long year of diverse separations and an existing atmosphere of instability. I find it so difficult to capture authentic feelings and deep emotions without the outcome being too elevated. I have asked 2 musicians: Dany Ahmad is a guitarist I have been cooperating. Never before has making music together felt like we are taking one and the same breath. Christian Grothe is also a long known, estimated musician. The two form a duo. While it indeed is imperfect, I believe it captures a momentary deep musical encounter.
