Stuart Vandegraaff
Sydney-based reeds performer of saxophones (all), clarinet and Arabic nays, composer and bandleader of intercultural global fusion group Masha's Legacy. A specialist in Arabic music and taqasim, Stuart has adapted his saxophone technique to incorporate aspects including a 24-tone chromatic (quarter-tone) approach and comprehensive understanding of Arabic maqamat and taqasim. He also has vast experience with Brazilian styles including chorinho, samba and MPB. Equally comfortable in an orchestral or improvising jazz setting, it is in the intercultural music space that Stuart feels most at home.
