Anibal Cruz
My name is Aníbal Cruz and I am a pianist, composer, producer, educator, arranger and singer from Cuba residing in the City of Boston since 2014. I’ve been playing and producing music since I was 6 years old and I consider myself a versatile musician whose spectrum goes from classical and Jazz music to Latin and folkloric. Music is my biggest passion and my favorite form of communication – it has been an elementary way of expression, enjoyment, entertainment, education, and protest since the very beginning of society. Music connects us all at the core level of human emotions and behaviors, exposing the strength as well as the vulnerability of each individual person.
We have been creating this piece over a very long time within a group that, as Beyond Music intends, is spread all across the world. All of us deeply believe in the power of music as a catalyst for intercultural communication and empathy as well as understanding towards one another. Born in Switzerland, I did not have to go through many of the things that my co-creators have: being cold at night, not having food, having to leave my home to seek a better future. I don't believe this is honored enough and that is what this song is about.
