About me

Mellingen, Switzerland
Social Activist

I play worldmusic and I'm specialized in string-instruments such as Oud, Bouzoukie, Flamencoguitar, Tambura, Cümbüs, Cifteli and other. I've recorded and produced 20 CDs. For my last CD I composed 15 songs for children in 15 languages. With my main music band www.ssassa.ch we perform Balkan gypsy music, Arabic and Flamenco. Most often we perform interactive concerts for children in schools: “Schnabelwetzer – 7 songs in 7 languages”. We play regularly on evening gigs like intercultural events, festivals, weddings... Beside that I produce the www.gypsyfestival.ch and I run an intercultural children-project called www.beyondcultures.ch (the new name is Musaik).
I’d be really happy to meet you out there and create new music beyond all borders. I’m equipped with a home studio and I’ve got a wonderful network of great musicians around me.

Ki Dunya

This song was created with 4 Rrom-Musicians from Northmacedonia and Bulgaria. The lyrics are in the language of rromanes. It's not easy to translate because the words have many meanings. It could be interpreted like this: Receive the messsage, rayed by flowers, sung by birds, sent by the water falling from the mountains: The light is here, inhale it and be part oft this world. The subtext is to protect nature as much as you defend your own life, be part of nature and love it.

Sento Chiamata

Our planet is our cradle, of enchanting beauty. "Sento chiamata" is Mother Earth's call to be aware of the incredibly rich diversity of lifeforms that has evolved over millions of years – I protect what I love.

One World

ONE WORLD is a musical journey across our planet which explores the connections between cultures, landscapes and nature. Starting in the ocean, the cradle of primordial life, flutes play duets with the songs of whales. We proceed to the beach, lulled by the sound of waves, while a sparkling layer of violin textures frolics over them. Traveling inland, we reach the jungle, and begin to hear the voices of animals and humanity. The voices carry a powerful message: We have one world, and although we are all different, we must work together.

Musaik por Tanura

"Musaik por Tanura" is a real melting pot of different styles and languages, composed by Christian Fotsch: The intro to "Tanura tari Ssassa" was originally composed as film music. In the lyrical Spanish part "Letra por Martinetes", Miguel develops the narrative of the Indian "Arai", who was born into a wealthy family clan, but who now prefers to live as a poor yet free gitano. The last part of the song explores in Spanish the exciting meanderings of courtship and how to win the heart of the beloved one.

This song has been composed by Christian Fotsch. The lyrics are written in Romanes by Denis Zekirov. At the age of 13 he got the chance to perform as lead trumpet player for the inauguration of Bill Clinton, along with Esma Redzepova, known as the queen of the Gypsies, who adopted him as her 47th and last son. Amrat Hussain, a tabla player from Jajpur, gives the song an Indian touch. Miguel Sotelo, a flamenco guitarist living in Sevilla, adds with his soloist playing a touch of flamenco to that happy song inviting people to dance.
