It expresses the sorrow of understanding that the earth would be ‘Eden’ once more, without our actions. ‘Our dear small pale blue dot’ refers to what the astronauts described when they saw the earth from space. The song asks ‘will we learn to change, to grow, clean up the mess we’ve made?
