Chapel was composed at a music residency in 2004 Lecce, Italy as a collaboration between guitar and 'sarod,' a traditional North Indian stringed musical instrument, descended from the Rebab in Afghanistan. It was inspired by the distinct difference in playing styles and sounds of a staccato guitar and the long, sliding notes of the sarod possible due to the metallic fretboard. "Chapel" was composed and performed in a pitch-dark, black mausoleum in a 'masseria' at midnight where there was absolutely no space or crevice for any light to enter.
