I chose to present this music because it is a melody interpreted by a single instrument, the cello played here by the Danish musician, Soma Allpa. For me as a composer, writing a melody alone, devoid of any orchestration or artifice, is both one of the purest expressions of music and also the most difficult to achieve (especially for an instrument that I do not play myself). This music comes from a soundtrack I composed in Copenhagen for the magnificent show "Transit" directed by my friend Artistic Director Giacomo Ravicchio and produced by the Meridiano Theatre. The music was also made for the character of a pregnant woman in a moment of communion with the child she was carrying inside her. I like the idea that this melody is the song of her heart that tells the past, present and future to this child that is about to be born.
