La 'Allam
The piece "La 'Allam" is simply a Love Song composed by Ali Asaad, it is a piece of Ali's current working on new Syrian Song formations, which is built on intimate spoken contemporary Syrian poetry (here the poet Hani Nadeem) with various dialects/accents of Syrian-Levantine Arabic. Reflecting nuances of Syrian youths and their concerns and struggles to establish normality and to be able to live love stories under the pressure of the last severe 8 years. This forms "a new identity" questions especially with the huge number of Syrian youths who moved to Europe recently. The new identity is reflected musically by collaborating with Russian Swiss-based arranger Sasha Shlain, and Swiss Saxophonist Thomi Geiger, trying to bring the Syrian Pop Song into its new orbit, to confront new musical textures and possibilities of arrangement, effected basically by Jazz settings and electronics, and to find its new paths of dialogue in its new society, targeting Syrians and Europeans at the same time.
