Described by The New York Times as "Africa’s most widely respected international vocalist, and one of its hungriest synthesizers of culture and ideas", Angélique Kidjo is a world-renowned, Benin-born singer and choreographer who is loved for her striking voice and impressive stage performance. A true icon in the world music genre, Kidjo has released sixteen albums and won five Grammy Awards, more than any other musician from the African continent.

Write your song for SOCIAL CHANGE - and collaborate with an artist who is not just an extraordinary musician, but a singer who has engaged with issues of education, human rights, and women’s rights in particular. Having a deep-rooted history in social activism, Angélique Kidjo has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2002, and in 2006, she set up her own foundation, "Batonga", which supports adolescent girls in West Africa through scholarships, mentoring programs, and by creating "safe spaces".

In the same spirit, Kidjo has dedicated numerous songs to special causes: with "In My Name", a collaboration with Will.i.am from Black Eyed Peas, she called on heads of state and government to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Similarly, in Paul McCartney’s "Love Song to the Earth", she highlighted the vulnerability of our planet and the effects of climate change.

"As artists, we not only make music, but we also transport a message with this music. We are ambassadors for our home countries and ambassadors for all the people who have no voice", the singer once said in an interview with dpa.

By being a great singer and a role model, Angélique Kidjo joins Tina Turner, our late Co-Founder, in a strong line of women artists who stand for SOCIAL CHANGE.
